Located in southwest Johnson County Kansas, Edgerton is an idyllic community with a rich and colorful past. Incorporated in 1883, Edgerton was named for the chief railroad engineer who helped lay down the railroad tracks that passed by the future town site.

The Santa Fe railroad breathed life into an area that was originally bounty lands for soldiers who fought in the Indian Wars and the War of 1812. Edgerton's birth was the death knell for the nearby towns of Lanesfield and McCamish. These towns were not on the rail line.  Their settlers and many of their buildings moved to the more prosperous Edgerton.

Today, the residents of Edgerton enjoy a small-town, rural setting in one of fastest growing counties in the nation. Located in the southwest corner of Johnson County, Edgerton is accessed by Highway 56 to the north and I-35 two miles to the south. There you will find charming older neighborhoods as well as some of the newest housing in the county.

For recreation, residents can take advantage of the local lake and parks, or travel into neighboring Gardner for a game of golf. The Kansas City Chief's football, Royals baseball, Attack soccer and Blades hockey are all well worth the drive to Kansas City.   While there, art patrons can attend the symphony, opera and a variety of cultural events. Shoppers will enjoy the prestigious Country Club Plaza and several other shopping centers in the region, including the recently opened Great Mall of the Great Plains in Olathe.

Firmly anchored with rich historical roots, the "S.W. Corner Stone" of bustling Johnson County retains its small, hometown character. Come experience Edgerton and share in its rich past and future growth.
